It's Raining Cats and Well... Cats!

My cat has had an un natural obesession with water. He’ll sit in between the shower curtain and the liner (for all you boys out there - the vinyl solid colored curtain IS supposed to be hidden by something else) and batted at the water dripping in between. He’ll yowl by the sink when I run the water for doing dishes. And he used to drink out of the little mini-fountain my parents had in the living room.

His favorite pastime is knocking his water dish around the house and splashing the water over the sides. He even managed to move the pet fountain I once bought him. Which I wouldn’t mind… except I’m not a morning person. And every morning I pry my eyelids open just enough to make it into the kitchen. And EVERY morning I end up stepping right into his water bowl. This does not improve my general morning disposition. In fact it makes me contemplate new cat-hyde boots.

A few weeks ago I added a new member to our household. A cute baby hooded rat named whom I named Bodeicea. I set her up in her sweet purple cage with all the trimmings: food bowl, sleeping tube, walnut chewy, nut-roll, and water bottle…water bottle.

As each morning passed after her arrival I’d watch her putter around her cage, chewing open sunflower seeds, drinking from her water bottle. Every morning as my euphemisms grew more inventive I arrived at an ingenious idea of my own. Why couldn’t Horatio use a water bottle? So I gleefully headed to the pet store and purchased one extra large guinea pig water bottle complete with a floating rubber ducky inside to monitor the water level.

It’s hanging off the edge of my bookshelf. And by jove it works… ok so he looks a little retarded but he’s so malevolent he deserves to look a little stupid.

As a side note this is one of my new favorite websites: http://www.stuffonmycat.com/

Enjoy!
