A Face Built For Radio - 2007-06-29 |
If You See Palm Trees It Can't Be Cold....Right? I've decided I'm hopeless with picture taking. I bought a digital camera 6months ago and in my mind digital=idiot proof. Well be that as it may, digital does not = Rose proof. So don't expect any fantastic pictures of my San Diego sojourn, which began yesterday.
I have a friend Moriah who is a resperatory therapist. She was invited to move to San Diego temporarily to help a hospital with a higher patient to staff ratio. So off she went end of December and unless they extend her stay she'll be coming back in April. So when I'm looking at travel arrangements for the visit I want to make the tickets as inexpensive as possible. Low and behold if we fly into Los Angeles instead of San Diego we can save $30! So I ask Moriah if she could pick us up at LAX instead and she agreed. I have no concept of time or distance. I remember a point in my life not so long ago when I though everything was half an hour away... "Hey Rose, when are you going to get here?" "Half an hour." or "How far away is Manitowac?" "Half an Hour." My fervent believe in the "Half Hour Method" resulted in alot of late arrivals. It would have been nice if someone had interceeded and patted me in a slighly condecending way on the shoulder and said "Hon, you can't drive to Chicago in a half-hour." Thankfully Moriah seems to have such a person. So our trip itinerary changed as follows:
Catch Flyway Bus to Grand Central Station 8p (local 10:30pm central) Take Amtrack Surfliner South to Sandiego 10:10pm-1am (local central time 12:10a-3a) Moriah picks us up from Amtrack
But I'm here now and the apartment Moriah's hospital rents for her is fantastically located, not to mention has wonderful club facilities. I'm looking forward to the next few days. We fly back on Monday. I brought clothes for summer but this morning it was 55 degrees. It should warm up to around 70. Which is a good thing b/c aside from my sneakers I brought only sandals. This morning I'm going to get a pedicure and then we're off to see some of the museums or the zoo. I vote the zoo, but we'll see. I should probably go back to bed, but I know I won't write anything down if I don't do it now. Till later - peace out and don't expect great pictures, all I've taken thus far are blurry action shots from the bus on the way to the Amtrack. Grand Central Station itself is a beautiful building and had I the right frame of mind when we were there I should have taken some shots of it. Alas hind sight is 20/20. 7:31 a.m., 2007-02-23
